How it works
Herald Lab turns a last name into a commemorative heraldic document: researched surname history, honest arms association when sources allow, and a printable digital PDF. Here is the full process.
1. Choose a document
- Standard — clear last-name origin PDF; arms on selected variants.
- Executive — extended narrative + HD full-achievement artwork.
- Dual-name / anniversary — two surnames on one page.
- Templates (family tree / DIY arms) are instant downloads and skip research.
2. Enter what we need at checkout
- Last name (required).
- Second last name for dual-name documents.
- Country or region (optional) — helps when sources list several branches.
- PDF language — English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Romanian, or Swedish.
3. Research
A specialist reviews historical and heraldic references for:
- Origin and meaning of the surname where attested.
- Spelling variants and geographic distribution.
- Coats of arms historically recorded for families of the name, or arms commonly associated with the surname.
We do not invent an “official” crest for everyone who shares a spelling. If arms cannot be documented, we say so and may supply a labeled decorative reconstruction when the pack includes artwork.
4. PDF structure
- Surname identification and variants.
- Origin / history narrative.
- Heraldic section with honest wording.
- Parchment-style layout for 8.5×11 / A4 print.
- Clear disclaimer.
5. Delivery
You receive the PDF by email and/or Shopify download — typically within 24 hours of a paid custom order. Nothing is mailed. Check spam/junk if you do not see the message.

Why not a random clip-art crest?
Generic crest shops often reuse the same artwork for unrelated customers. Herald Lab researches the surname you enter, prefers documented associations, and keeps surname artwork consistent for family reorders.
